FAQ
How do I join VAA?
Apply through the form on our For Talent page. Tell us who you are, which languages and styles you work in, and share your best demos. Every application goes through the same four steps: submit, verify, review, decision — and we reply either way.
How old do I have to be to join VAA?
You must be 18 or older to apply. Representation involves legally binding agreements and voice licensing, so we can't make exceptions.
How does VAA work?
VAA is a talent agency for AI, TTS and synthetic voice work. Clients brief us on what they need, we match the brief against our roster, and invite matching artists to audition. When a client chooses you, we negotiate the rates, rights and paperwork on your behalf. We only earn when you do, through commission on booked work.
Is joining VAA free?
Yes. There are no sign-up costs and no subscription fees. VAA earns a commission on the work we book for you — if you don't earn, neither do we.
How can I leave VAA's roster?
Send your agent written notice at any time and you'll be removed from matching. Agreements already in effect simply run their agreed term.
Will I get a public profile online where I can upload demos?
No — and that's deliberate. VAA is not a public directory, which protects your voice from being scraped, cloned or used without a license. Your demos are shared privately with vetted clients, under controlled terms, when your voice matches a brief.
How do clients listen to my demos?
Through curated shortlists. When a brief matches your profile, we present your demos privately to that client alongside a small selection of other matching voices.
Is VAA a voice platform where clients can search and browse for voices?
No. VAA is a curated agency, not a marketplace. Clients cannot browse the roster; every introduction goes through an agent who matches the brief to the right voices.
How do clients find talent?
Clients send us a brief: the use case, languages, style, and how the voice will be used. We shortlist matching artists from the roster and present them with demos.
Why are demos important?
Your demos are how you get matched and shortlisted — clients hear them before anything else. Keep them current, varied, and representative of the work you want to be booked for.
Adding a demo for an audition
Each audition invitation states whether the client wants a fresh recording or an existing demo. Upload your file through the link in the invitation before the stated deadline.
Why do I need to audition for jobs when I'm on the VAA roster?
Being on the roster gets you in the room; the client still chooses the exact voice for their project. Auditions also let clients confirm direction, tone and fit before anyone signs anything.
Quality requirements for demos
Record in a quiet, treated space with no background noise. Submit unprocessed audio — no EQ, compression or noise reduction — as WAV, 48kHz / 24-bit, unless the brief says otherwise. Only slate if the invitation asks for it.
Why won't my demo upload?
Check the file format (WAV or MP3), the size limit noted on the form, and that your filename contains no special characters. Try a stable connection. Still stuck? Email your agent and we'll take the file directly.
How does VAA match clients with the most qualified talent for their job?
A combination of profile data — languages, accents, age range, styles — and human judgement. An agent reviews every match before an invitation goes out. It's never a public popularity contest.
How and when are invitations to jobs sent?
By email, as jobs come in and your profile matches the brief. Timing varies with client demand — some weeks bring several invitations, others none.
Will I be invited to audition for all client jobs?
No — only for jobs where your voice genuinely matches the brief. We'd rather send you three invitations you can win than thirty you can't.
How do I submit an audition for a client job?
Follow the link in your invitation. Read the brief — and any NDA — before recording, then upload your file before the deadline. Questions? Your agent is one reply away.
Can a client use my audition files without my permission?
No. Auditions are protected by audition terms and, where applicable, an NDA: no production use, no AI training, no voice cloning. Any actual use of your voice requires a signed agreement.
Does VAA filter audition responses when they are submitted to clients?
Yes. We review every submission for fit with the brief and technical quality before it reaches the client, so what they hear from VAA is always presentable.
I attached the wrong audition file! How can I send another response?
Reply to your invitation or contact your agent right away. As long as the deadline hasn't passed, we can replace the file.
When will I hear back after I submit my audition?
Timelines vary per client. You'll hear from us if you're shortlisted or booked. If the stated decision window passes quietly, the client most likely went in another direction — it happens to every voice, on every roster.
What is the minimum budget for VAA jobs?
We maintain minimum rates per project type and usage scope to protect the roster. The specifics are always stated in your invitation. We don't submit talent for work below our standards.
Accepting private audition agreements
Read the scope and any NDA before you record. Accepting a private audition agreement covers the audition only — it never commits you to the job itself.
Accepting job agreements
Review the scope, term, territory, usage rights (including any AI or TTS rights) and compensation. Your agent walks you through every clause. Sign only when you're comfortable — that's the point of having an agent.
Communication with clients
By default, everything runs through your VAA agent — that keeps scope, terms and payment protected. Live direction sessions or briefings with the client are arranged whenever a project needs them.
Why would I need to decline a job agreement?
Common reasons: scheduling conflicts, usage terms broader than you're comfortable with (for example, AI training scope), rates, brand conflicts, or exclusivity clauses that clash with your other work. Declining is always your right.
What is text-to-speech (TTS)?
Technology that converts written text into spoken audio. Modern TTS systems are trained on recordings of human voices — which is exactly why licensed, fairly paid voice talent matters.
What are synthetic voice projects?
Projects where your recordings are used to train or drive a digital voice: TTS voices, branded voice assistants, character voices, and similar. They're governed by strict licensing that defines exactly what the voice may do, where, and for how long.
How does a synthetic voice project for AI, or TTS, work?
Typically: script design, recording to a precise technical spec, model training by the client or their vendor, quality evaluation, then launch. The agreement defines usage, term and territory — and VAA manages those rights on an ongoing basis, including renewals.
After I submit a response to a private call for auditions, can I still opt out?
Yes. Until you've signed the job agreement, you can withdraw. Tell your agent as soon as possible so we can inform the client.
What can I expect regarding agreements?
Written, per-project agreements in plain terms: what is licensed, where, for how long, and for what compensation. VAA negotiates them, explains them, and manages renewals and expirations.
Does VAA guarantee job opportunities?
No — and no honest agency can. We curate real opportunities and put you forward where you genuinely fit; we can't promise volume.
Who are VAA's clients?
Global brands, technology companies, studios and platforms building voice products and synthetic media. Much of this work is under NDA, which is also why we don't publish a client list.
Does VAA represent voices in any language?
Yes. The roster is international, covering a wide range of languages and accents, with particularly deep coverage in Dutch and English.
Can I join other voice rosters when joining VAA?
Yes — VAA representation is non-exclusive unless a specific agreement states otherwise. Just keep signed usage terms in mind to avoid conflicts between projects.
Do I need to have my own recording studio to join VAA?
A professional-quality home recording setup is strongly recommended, since most work is remote. For some projects, clients book professional studios. What matters is broadcast-quality audio, not expensive gear.
